Wembley. 26th May. A day to savour.

The national stadium bathed in sunshine and 38,000 Fulham fans in full voice. Expectant. Hopeful. Nervous. Aston Villa the opponents for the Championship Play-off  Final. The prize, a place in the Premier League.

After a cagey opening, the game exploded in to life when Ryan Sessegnon's slide rule pass found Tom Cairney through on goal. First time with his sweet left foot, the skipper coolly found the corner of the net and the Whites were in front.

A dominant first half gave way to a see-saw second. Villa's Jack Grealish, tormentor-in-chief, creating and spurning opportunities in equal measure, before escaping a red card. Fulham held firm, despite themselves being reduced to ten men with 20 minutes remaining.

When the full-time whistle sounded, there was relief mixed with sheer joy at one end of Wembley, as the Whites claimed their deserved return to the top flight after a four-year absence.
